Early year trip out

Lincolnshire again

Wednesday 9th February was the first day out of 2011 for myself, Kev Pye Phil Charlton and Col Fawcett

An early start from Tesside was made but unfortunately we did not arrive at Waddington until just after 10.00 because of the closure of the A19 southbound due to a 3 car collision.  Frustration grew when we were told by the owners of the WAVE we had just missed a VC 10 depart.

We had breakfast and went across to  Coningsby were after a slow start the sorties came thick and fast and the sun caame out. Tornado ZG 777 arrived with a Litening Pod slung under the centre line and 41(R) launched one of their Tornado's. I love the sight and sound of after burners.

Plenty of banter helped pass the time at the end of runway 26 before returning to the WAVE for Phil to re fuel. While we were waiting for Phil Sentinel ZJ 693 broke into the circuit. Fading light meant setting off home, and chatting about going to Cottesmore for the Phinal Photo day filled in some of the trip home.

Some pictures from the day out will follow soon but at the moment the England V Italy Rugby game beckons.

Sad to see them go along with the Harrier.Unfortunately the role that they were designed for in the early 70s has long gone.
