Nimrod R1, The End

Waddington

Thanks to my son's text i went down to Waddington for the last flight of 51 Squadron's Nimrod R1

I set off from Middlesbrough early on Tuesday with Jon & Jim Irwin & Kev Pye.

The WAVE was nearly full by we arrived at 08.30. The weather was very overcast with mist and rain.

The ceremony was on time and the Nimrod crew did the official "Fly Past ". The crew then went into a short routine giving some good angles for shots. Grey on grey is not good.

The Thunderbirds C17 arrived in mist and left in mist.

It then rained heavily and we decided to cut and run before the Thunderbirds arrived.

I am going back down tomorrow for a couple of days, to include this years show, so i will post a selection of pictures next week.

  • Sad to see them go along with the Harrier.Unfortunately the role that they were designed for in the early 70s has long gone.
